I’ve always thought of the Ford Escort MK2 as the European version of the Toyota AE86. Both cars are small, light and rwd with a solid axle and a rev-happy four cylinder engine. The MK2 and AE86 have both achieved cult following due to their successful formula for a fun, basic car that you can drive totally sideways.
