Callaway Sledgehammer

What’s the fastest car in the world right now? That’s probably not a hard question to answer for most car guys: the Bugatti Veyron. Top Gear documented the Super Sport hit 267 mph:

That’s ultimately not massively surprising given the car’s 1000+ horsepower W16 quad turbo engine. Would it surprise you if I told you that a twin turbo Corvette was faster than the base model Bugatti Veyron? Yeah, that’s not so crazy that it would shatter the foundation of your existence. Bolt a couple of giant turbos to an LS7 and you could probably get close to 1000 horsepower without violating physics. What if I told you this Corvette was built in 1988 and only had 380 horsepower? Surprised yet? That’s right, back in 1988 Callaway built a twin turbo C4 Corvette that they called The Sledgehammer. It hit 254.76 mph with John Ligenfelter behind the wheel while still retaining its interior, features and daily drivability. Pretty amazing piece of engineering and fabrication.

Motor Trend Head 2 Head: Corvette Grand Sport vs. Porsche 911 Carrera S

YouTube’s push for exclusive content (kind of like having their own TV shows) has resulted in some very high quality car reviews. This is Motor Trend’s segment called Head 2 Head where they do direct comparisons of two cars. In their first episode of H2H they do one of their favorite comparisons, the Corvette vs. the 911. Motor Trend has been pitting these two against each other for years in the pages of their magazine. Editor Angus Mackenzie takes the first part of the video to explain why they like comparing these two cars despite of the fact that they are in completely different price categories. One thing I’ve noticed with the new Motor Trend content is that they are really trying to go into extreme detail talking about what it’s like to drive the cars they review. It makes for far more interesting videos about cars that I can only dream about driving.
