The Spirit of Drag Week – Hot Rod Magazine

The last time we checked in with the guys from Hot Rod Magazine, they let us in on the Unlimited Class of their 5 track, 1400 mile Drag Week road trip. This video is something a little different from Drag Week. It’s the story of a British man named Wacky Mick Wilkes. He shipped his Vauxhaul van to the US just so he could do Drag Week and meet his heroes. He did that and so much more. Check out the story of how he was awarded the Spirit of Drag Week.

Hot Rod Drag Week 2012

Hot Rod Magazine just posted the coverage from their Drag Week event. The premise of the event is simple to say, hard to accomplish. Racers have to post the quickest average quarter mile elapsed time at 5 tracks in 5 days. Competitors are also required to drive their cars on 1400 miles of public roads between the tracks. The goal of the event is to find the fastest drag car that is also street legal and reliable. There are several classes, but the video focuses on the insanity that took place between the 2500+ horsepower monsters in the Unlimited Class.

Baja Trophy Truck on Tarmac – Hot Rod Magazine

Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine set out to show off the capabilities of Cameron Steele’s Desert Assassin Trophy Truck by doing some comparisons that most of us can understand. They take the truck in desert racing specifications and put it on a drag strip and have it turn in a hot lap around Willow Springs. The guys also brought along a Ford Mustang Boss 302 and Raptor for comparison’s sake. The speed they get out of the trophy truck is pretty impressive and I always enjoy watching machines excel at things they weren’t specifically designed for.

2013 Shelby GT500 vs. 2012 Camaro ZL1 – Hot Rod Magazine

The guys at Hot Rod Magazine get their hands on the Shelby GT500 and Camaro ZL1 press cars after they’ve made their rounds getting formal reviews by British guys here and here. Instead of doing the same thing again, they just have fun with the cars testing their burnout abilities, exhaust notes, cup holders vs. bang shifting and drag racing.

Release the Draguar! – Hot Rod Magazine

“We just bolted $1600 worth of carburetors to this $1000 crap can.” The guys from Hot Rod Magazine buy a $1000 1974 Jaguar XJ12 with a Chevy 350 already in it with plans to go drag racing. They bring a huge Weiand supercharger (these instantly make everything awesome) and a pair of Holley carburetors on the plane with them to pick up the car and then install everything in a parts store parking lot. The guys then drive the Draguar to San Francisco stopping every 12 miles to get a car wash to cool the engine until finally making it to the drag strip and doing a couple of passes. I hope they keep this car, it’s pretty rad.
