e-volo Electric Multicopters

The prototype for the e-volo electric multicopter achieved its first manned flight at the end of October last year. It represented huge breakthroughs in battery energy density, electric motor power output and controls software programming. Now that e-volo has proof of concept, they are teaming up with Oshkosh to move forward on single and double seat commercial versions of the electric multicopter called the Volocopter. The multicopter format may seem complicated, but it offers many advantages in terms of ease of controls and stability when compared to a traditional helicopter. e-volo is hoping to achieve 6500 ft flight altitude, 60 mph top speed (100 kph), 990 pound (450 kg) payload and one hour of flight time with the new concepts.

2012 Australian Drifting Grand Prix Round 2 – Calder Park Raceway

It’s only natural that drifting be a popular pastime in Australia, the land of V8 Supercar racing and The Ultimate Burnout challenge. We might have to add video editing to that list if Mr. Scott Mitchell has anything to say about it. We are fortunate to have him bring us this coverage of the second round of the 2012 Australian Drifting Grand Prix at Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne. I would venture a guess to say that this will be the only place in the world to see two Holden Commodore Utes tandem drifting.

Only Original Once

Holley Performance profiled this 1970 Bernie Cedoz dirt racing car that showed up at their 2012 Hot Rod Reunion. The car runs a dry sump 5.0 liter Chevy V8 fed with methanol by a Hilborn mechanical injection. It has one speed, no starter and carried enough fuel to race for 100 miles at a time. The owner, Bill Akin, has chosen to leave the car just as he found it in the builder’s son’s barn.
