Drag Racing with the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport: Motor Trend Head 2 Head

The folks over at Motor Trend / Automobile magazine really love to do some gratuitous drag racing. Don’t believe me? They put together this 11 car showdown with all of their “Best Driver’s Car” contenders last year. It was 1.5 million dollars worth of cars all running down an abandoned runway at one time:

They’re back at it this week in their latest YouTube Head 2 Head segment. This time they’ve collected just 4 cars that are worth 1 million dollars. The contenders are the McLaren MP4-12C, the Lexus LFA, the Lamborghini Aventador and the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport. They’re trying to see if anybody can challenge Bugatti’s hold as the drag racing king. Check out the video for all the details and the results.

Rhys Millen at 2012 Formula D Round 2 Road Atlanta

Rhys Millen and Hyundai are the first of what I’m sure will be several videos of coverage from the Road Atlanta round of the 2012 Formula D Championship. They offer some nice views of the custom suspension in action. Formula D reversed the direction around the loop this year compared to previous years which some people said gave the advantage to the high power cars.

Porsche Carrera GT Engine Out Overhaul

This is a video detailing the overhaul process of a Porsche Carrera GT after it had done 13,000 hard miles. The engine was dropped out and most of the panels and seats removed for care and cleaning. It’s a rare in-depth look at one of the most amazing supercars on the road today.

As an added bonus, here’s the video of Jeremy Clarkson reviewing the Carrera GT on Top Gear. He also makes a joke about the silicon carbide in the carbon ceramic brakes and multi-disc clutch at the beginning. It’s the same ceramic composite we talked about yesterday in the How It’s Made: Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brake Rotors video.

Jay Leno rides the Mission Motors Mission-R

Mission Motors brought their Mission-R electric superbike to Jay Leno’s garage. The Mission-R is one of the best performing electric motorcycles currently made. It was a clean paper design and it has a mind boggling 14 kilowatt-hours of energy storage and a 120 kilowatt / 161 horsepower alternating current motor. This results in legitimate 600cc sport bike equivalent performance. The bike is really well presented since Mission sent a knowledgeable sales guy to Leno who had some good questions for him. I was actually surprised at how well read Jay was about electric vehicles. Head over to Autoblog Green for a high resolution gallery of the Mission-R as well.

Why Nikola Tesla was the Greatest Geek Who Ever Lived by The Oatmeal

The Oatmeal just released this web comic infographic about the life and accomplishments of Nikola Tesla. He’s the father of our alternating current power systems as well as a pioneer in many of our modern technologies. Head over to The Oatmeal to see the entire infographic. Be warned there are some bad words and cynicism but overall the comic is funny and a good overview of Tesla’s fascinating life.
