The Caretaker

“No one really owns a vintage car. You’re a caretaker for a certain period of time and that’s the wonderful thing about them; It’s a piece of work that people value. You get a chance to restore it. You get a chance to drive it. You get a chance to take care of it for a certain period of time and you become a piece of the history of that collector car or that vintage race car.” Those are the very wise words of Andy Greene, one of the leading vintage Ferrari mechanics here in the US. Petrolicious brings us the story of how Greene got started in the industry and what it is he loves about working on vintage cars.

Lucra LC470

The Lucra LC470 follows the same formula as the original Shelby Cobra: English roadster body + American V8 power = performance. In this case, the body is a carbon fiber shell set over a steel tube frame chassis and the motivation comes from a 7.0 liter GM LS7. It all boils down to over 600 horsepower in a 2000 pound (907 kg) car.

2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302

I’m posting this video from Jay Leno’s Garage as a counter-point to Motor Trend’s review of the awesome Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE from this morning. Jay gets to go over the finer details of what all was changed on the Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition with the Mustang head engineer Dave Pericak. As I mentioned in the 1LE video, I really enjoy the fact that GM and Ford took the time to give real suspension tuning and chassis balance to their core muscle cars. Keep the naturally aspirated engine response, cram as huge of a wheel and tire package as you can under the fenders and change the spring and damper rates so the cars have some agility. The term muscle car doesn’t have to mean settling for handling compromises for straight line speed. The 1LE and the Boss 302 are proof.
