How to Winterize Your Motorcycle – Saturday Mechanic

Ben Wojdyla of Popular Mechanics is back with another interesting episode of their Saturday Mechanic how-to videos where they talk about preparing a motorcycle for winter storage. A lot of the topics covered also apply to storing cars for a long period of time, especially ones with carburetors. Ben and his motorcycle mechanic Todd cover the entire preparation process while discussing why the steps are important.

Stinger 609 – Conley Precision Engines

You are probably looking at this picture of the Stinger 609 supercharged V8 by Conley Precision Engines trying to figure out what’s so special about it. It will be tough to see because there isn’t a scale reference for the engine’s size. The “609” in the engine’s name stands for 6.09 cubic inches which translates to a little less than 100 cubic centimeters. To put everything in perspective, the Stinger 609 is a little over 14 inches long and 10 inches tall with the supercharger and dual carburetors. Other features include a dry sump oiling system, full ignition system and an integrated electric starter. The naturally aspirated version makes 5.5 hp at 9500 rpm and the supercharger bumps the power figure to 7 hp. Pricing is $5700 for the NA version and $7400 for the supercharged Stinger. Check out the dyno stand run below:

Hot Rod Drag Week 2012

Hot Rod Magazine just posted the coverage from their Drag Week event. The premise of the event is simple to say, hard to accomplish. Racers have to post the quickest average quarter mile elapsed time at 5 tracks in 5 days. Competitors are also required to drive their cars on 1400 miles of public roads between the tracks. The goal of the event is to find the fastest drag car that is also street legal and reliable. There are several classes, but the video focuses on the insanity that took place between the 2500+ horsepower monsters in the Unlimited Class.

Portland to Dakar – Icon Motosports

Icon is a motorcycle riding gear manufacturer that’s not afraid to get creative with their marketing. They’re the one’s responsible for the original Motorcycle vs. Car Drift Battle video and its sequel. To promote their latest line of Raiden all-weather gear, Icon put a couple of pro adventure racers on souped up Triumph Tiger 800’s and sent them through gnarly terrain all over the world. There’s also a couple of special appearances by Alonzo Bodden and Kylie Lewallen. I think an epic adventure ride like this would be fun to add to the old Bucket List.
