Motor Trend Tours Scotland in a Bentley Continental GT V8

The story of the Bentley Continental GT V8 starts with the president of company casually asking one of his engineers how much fuel they could save by going to a twin turbo V8 instead of the W12. The engineer estimated “probably around 40%” which the president then started using as a hard statistic for the car even before it had been designed. The engineering teams were actually able to more or less hit the mark (37%) in the “fuel efficient” Bentley which still makes 500 hp and 480 ft-lbs of torque. Motor Trend’s senior editor, Johnny Lieberman, takes the new Bentley for a tour of all of the places he’s wanted to see in Scotland. The video is long, but you learn a lot about the car and about some cool things in Scotland.

What’s It Like to Own a Pagani Zonda?

These videos will be a good test of whether you’re a real automotive enthusiast or not. If you don’t like cars, you’ll find them very boring. The founder and editorial director of Evo magazine, Harry Metcalfe, talks about what it’s like to own a Pagani Zonda. This isn’t your typical car review where they talk about the engine size and power output and then go drift the car around some corners. This review is more about the ownership experience. Metcalfe seems to know Horacia Pagani personally which is probably how he was able to purchase a Zonda press car for his own use. He’s owned it for a while now and he shares all the little details about it that you can only find by living with a car.

The Paganai Huayra Story

It’s pretty rare for an automaker to produce a background story video that’s as in-depth as this on that Pagani has made for the new Huayra. Then again, not many cars have as interesting back stories as Paganis and I don’t think anybody else could produce an equivalent car even if given access to the entire production process. Horacia Pagani says that he follows one of Leonardo da Vinci’s philosophies of art and science developing in unison. You can really see that in the functional design of the Huayra and the innovations like the titanium laced carbon fiber used in its chassis.

Motor Trend Drag Race: GT-R vs. Z06 vs. GT500

I came across another one of Motor Trend’s random gratuitous drag races. This is the 2012 Nissan GT-R vs. the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. the 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. One of the interesting stats to note is that the Corvette is the only car without forced induction, but weighs in under 3300 pounds while the other two are north of 3800. Enjoy:

Ford’s Twin Cities Assembly Plant says Goodbye to the Ranger

It’s not hard to see why Ford was able to survive without having to take government bailout money. They’ve always had huge customer sales with their F-150 trucks and fleet sales of the Crown Victoria and Ford Ranger. They’re also innovating well as evident by their EcoBoost technology. That being said, the key to continued success is to not be afraid of reinventing yourself while you are at the peak of your success. Ford has ended production of both the Crown Vic and the Ranger as part of a large corporate restructuring. I believe the last Crown Victorias were purchased by a police department while the last Rangers were bought up by Orkin. This is a video documenting the trip of the last Ford Ranger down the assembly line at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St. Paul Minnesota. It’s pretty cool to see the line workers take pride in the quality product that they produced.
