This is some pretty amazing footage of a Toyota AE86 from a European time trial event. The course looks extremely challenging which emphasizes the driver’s skill and the fact that the car is set up very well. The Sauber F1 Team has spent the last two years working on this project: the cutaway F1 car. It sounds simple, but I’m sure it was immensely complicated. It’s just like a biology exhibit you might find at a museum. The car is cut into two halves to allow you to see how the internal components are packaged. It’s an absolutely fascinating and slightly frightening look at where everything goes and it lives up to the old adage “If you want to find out how something works, push that $*%@#% through a band saw.”
Mercedes released a video last month that delves deeper into the construction of the F1 seat and the crazy seating position the guys have inside the cars. The very personable Nico Rosberg explains what it’s like to sit inside a modern Formula 1 car.
