Chris Rado Sets the FWD Track Record at Road Atlanta

Chris Rado is a former drag racer with his team at Descendant Racing who now compete in the Global Time Attack series. They campaign a very distinctive Scion tC in the unlimited front wheel drive class. If you still don’t know who I’m talking about, it’s the car with the giant front wing on it. Check out this first video to get an introduction to the team, their enthusiasm and the car:

They just set the front wheel drive track record at Road Atlanta. It’s a pretty impressive feat to build a 1000 horsepower front wheel drive car and it’s even more impressive to have gotten this good at driving it.

Take a Lap Around Monaco on Sebastian Vettel’s Helmet

Here’s an interesting video form a camera mounted to Sebastian Vettel’s helmet as he races around the streets of Monaco in his Formula 1 car. It kind of makes you appreciate just how difficult it is to pilot some of the fastest road racing cars on the planet. Either that or the Red Bull Racing team has a really terrible helmet cam mount.

Lawless Electric Rocket Sets Drag Bike Record

Lawless Rocket Assembly at OCC via gizmag

Lawless Industries of Ohio teamed up with Orange County Choppers to produce this drag racing bike, the Lawless Electric Rocket. Larry “Spiderman” McBride piloted it to a record 6.94 second 201 mph quarter mile run at Virginia Motorsports Park. The Rocket uses a 13 inch DC motor, a 355 volt lithium-ion battery pack from A123 systems and a 4000 amp Zilla controller. The bike is listed at 1350 hp, but can probably put down more based on the voltage of the batteries and the current rating of the controller. Here’s a video of the run. The engine noises at the beginning are from a car in the background.

Head over to gizmag for more details and pictures of the bike.

Red Bull Terramar Race

The circuit of Terramar is the second oldest track in Europe and the first auto track in Spain. It’s a high bank oval that hosted Formula 1 races in its prime. Red Bull took former WRC Champion and Dakar Rally winner, Carlos Sainz and current DTM driver Miguel Molina to their home country to set a new record at Terramar in the Audi R8 LMS. You would think smashing an old record around the high banked oval would be easy thanks to the 500 hp from the 5.2 liter V10 (same engine as the Lamborghini Gallardo), but  it’s not that simple. The track is old and hasn’t seen use in a long time. There are lots of potholes and crumbled concrete for the guys to avoid. You can see the R8’s getting airborne several times in the video. Will they be able to set a new record for the track? Watch and find out.
