Audi just published this animated technical breakdown of the all-electric R8 E-Tron. It shows the frame components, battery, motors, cooling systems, regenerative braking control scheme and torque vectoring. Unfortunately, Audi has also confirmed that the E-Tron will not be making it to production because they have been unhappy with the progress of battery technology.
Motor Trend gives us an inside look at the Audi Quattro GmbH (the German equivalent of our LLC Limited Liability Company) Factory. This is where all of Audi’s top of the line sports models have been built since 1983. They are currently responsible for the RS3, RS4, RS5, RS6 and R8. Everything from the aluminum stamping to the painting and final assembly are done in-house.
As part of the homologation requirements for Group B rally, the manufacturers had to produce 200 road going versions of the cars they used to compete with. The rule was kind of ridiculous given how extreme the race cars were, but it does increase the chance that regular people get to experience what they were like. Chris Harris got to test the RS200 from Ford and the Audi Sport Quattro. He does his usual excellent job of describing what the nature of the cars are like and what made them historically significant.
This is a tribute to German rally driver, Walter Rohrl, during his time driving the Audi Quattros.
