Monster Energy gathered a group of legendary racers together at the Paul Ricard circuit seemingly just because it would be awesome. The riders include 7 time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Shumacher, master of the Isle of Man John McGuiness, respected Grand Prix racer Randy Mamola, 2012 Moto2 runner up Pol Espargaro and endurance racer Keith Flint.
Lee Holdsworth of Irwin Racing walks us through the in and outs of a modern $300,000 Australian V8 Supercar. To keep things interesting, he compares his car to a replica of the car that won the first ever Bathurst 1000 race. That car is a $15,000 Ford Cortina MK1. I came across this video while reading the coverage of the Bathurst Racing Museum on Speedhunters.
The DRIVE channel on YouTube is bringing exclusive coverage of this year’s Race of Champions to the US. As a primer for the event, John Hindhaugh of RadioLeMans.com introduces the new cars that the drivers will have to master this year. The ROC buggy and the KTM X-Bow are back alongside a Lamborghini Gallardo based Super Trofeo, a TRD prepared Toyota GT-86 race car, a V8 powered NASCAR style stock car and a VW Scirocco.
This is footage from an East Coast Bash event that took place over the summer put on by Club Loose, Beard Life, Jersey Streets and Raceway Park at Englishtown, New Jersey. These guys have always done a great job putting on well organized and fun events that embrace the grassroots spirit of drifting. As you may have guessed from the title of the video, there is some *NSFW* language and finger gestures.
I’ve always thought the Porsche Panamera to be kind of the ugly duckling of the automotive world. Kudos for Porsche for venturing into a new market segment with a highly capable four wheel drive four door sedan, but did they really have to force the 911’s shape on it? It works on the short wheelbase sport coupe that is the 911, but it made the longer and larger Panamera look really bloated. Good thing it drives awesome and you can’t see the exterior from the behind the wheel. Now Porsche has decided to evolve the Panamera one step further with the e-hybrid Sport Turismo model that was debuted at this year’s Paris Auto Show. Sport Turismo is the flashy name they came up with for station wagon. The wagon has a frustrating soccer mom stigma here in the US, but in Europe high powered wagons are considered very cool. I’ve even heard it said that wagons are the mid-life crisis solution for European men. I love wagons, so it sounds like a fantastic tradition to me.
Something really interesting happened when Porsche’s designers set out to turn the Panamera into a wagon. Now that they had permission to deviate from the classic 911 shape, the Panamera started to fill out correct proportions and come into it’s own. The Sport Turismo looks absolutely fantastic. I think the it’s the car that the Panamera was meant to be. The ugly duckling has turned into the beautiful swan. Check out the video to see the designers work from clay models to the finished concept that was shown in Paris.
