How to Build a Tri-Power or Six Pack – Stacey David

Tri-Powers and Six Packs were found on some of the most legendary muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s. When you wanted good gas mileage and driveability, the V8 breathed through the center carburetor. When you wanted more power, the other two carburetors opened up to flow a lot more air and fuel into the engine to make ridiculous power while sounding awesome. Stacey David did this bit for his show, Gearz, on SPEED where he shows how to build your own tri-power or six pack on the cheap using 3 regular carburetors and a conversion kit. Even if you’re not building a tri-power of your own, it’s still pretty fascinating to see how these work.

Part 1: History and Theory of the Tri-Power and the start of the rebuild of the GM Rochester carburetors.

Build Your Own LS7 or LS9

When you buy a new Corvette Z06 or ZR-1 or crate engines of the LS7 or LS9, you have the option of paying $5800 to build your own engine at the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan. You go to the plant and use the GM parts, tools and processes under the guidance of a GM technician. Stacey David recently did this to build the LS7 going into the latest project car that’s building for his show Gearz on SPEED. Lucky for us, they brought cameras along.

The Gama Goat

Stacey David did a bit on the Gama Goat as part of his show, Gearz on SPEED. The Gama Goat is a military transport vehicle that was built during the Vietnam war. It answered a demand for a vehicle capable of traversing rough terrain that was hanging up the classic Deuce and a Half 2.5 ton truck. The Gama Goat is a 6×6 with an articulating body, independent suspension and lockers on all three axles. Power is provided by a Detroit Diesel supercharged, 2-stroke, 3 cylinder engine. The body was made from aluminum which allowed the Gama Goat to float. Unfortunately, not too many were made due to high cost and complexity, but they definitely got the job done off-road.
