Renntruck vs. Ferrari – D Motor

This is a bit from the German version of Top Gear, D Motor. They pit a big rig up against a Ferrari 360 Modena around their test track. From what I’ve been able to gather, the truck is from the Renntruck European truck racing series. I don’t understand German, so I don’t know why they’re loading the Ferrari up with potting soil or why they chose that specific amount of potting soil. Beyond that, the rest of the video can be enjoyed as long as you like some good racing and Rammstein. On the off chance that Sabine and the truck driver are spewing profanities at each other and it offends somebody you know who understands German and was about to proclaim their undying love to you, I apologize.

If you thought this was awesome, you should also check out Mike Ryan rallying in his big rig.

CNC Billet Aluminum 427 – Kirkham Motorsports

I always find it important to have inspiration when learning new skills. I’m currently trying to train on CNC mill work for the EV conversion project and I remembered this video from Kirkham Motorsports a few years ago. Kirkham Motorsports produces state of the art aluminum monocoque Shelby Cobra replicas as well as their own CNC billet aluminum 427 engines for them. They posted this 3-part series of videos to YouTube detailing the entire process starting for a giant forged aluminum block.

Part 1: Machining the Engine Block:

Mars Curiosity Descent Remastered in HD

It seems the Mars Curiosity Rover is inspiring a lot of fan works. The first one was the interactive panoramic of the Gale Crater made by combining the images beamed back with Google street view. Now we have a remastered high definition version of the rover’s descent into the atmosphere thanks to producer Bard Canning. He went back and increased the frame rate from 4 to 30 using interpolation and enhanced the colors and detail frame by frame.

Mercedes Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake – Chris Harris

It still baffles and frustrates me that most of the American consumer population does not like station wagons. This is made worse by the fact that most European car makers produce some serious high performance versions. From what I understand, when men in Europe go through a mid-life crisis they buy really fast autobahn annihilating wagons to get their mojo back. That’s why there are cars like this one, the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. It’s got the new 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 that powers all of the AMG cars except for the C63 (the engineers thought the C63 was too light for the torque of the turbo engine so they stayed with the snarly 6.2 liter NA V8). The wagon / shooting brake body style is more aerodynamic, offers better utility for hauling stuff and I think it looks way better. The fact that somebody can look at this car and still want a lumbering SUV makes me die a little bit inside.

The Lexus IS F – Toyota’s Turning Point?

Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago gives us the rundown on the 2012 Lexus IS F. He explains the car’s significance in that it was Toyota’s first step back towards making performance oriented cars. He also goes on to articulate the IS F’s fun nature while noting the suspension and limited slip differential upgrades that make it a genuine competitor against the likes of the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.
