Check out this footage of some jet car racing. This is the Cannonball Express vs. the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. Both cars are train themed and they stutter their throttle on staging to sound like a steam engine. I really like the side by side camera view down the drag strip, too.
This is a pretty well done animation showing how some of the systems work on the Audi R18 e-tron Quattro diesel hybrid that won this year’s 24 hours of Le Mans. It uses the next iteration of the electromagnetic flywheel energy storage system that was first pioneered on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Hybrid endurance racer. The energy from the regenerative braking is used to spin a flywheel up to 40,000 rpm in a vacuum. The Le Mans rules only allowed the team to power one of the axles with the electric motors. In the R18, a diesel engine powers the rear wheels and the electric motors drive the front wheels during boost mode.

7Tune put together some amazing coverage of all of the action from this year’s World Time Attack Challenge from Eastern Creek in Australia. Last year’s defending champion is the Cyber Evo. The Cyber Engineering team wanted to retire the car, but decided to bring it out for one more go at WTAC. They were plagued with a ton of technical problems and ultimately retired when the engine’s rear main seal failed and started an engine fire (there’s a shot of it in the video). This year’s winner was a new team from Australia with their Evo named Nemo.
**UPDATE** I found some development footage of the Cyber Evo as they were trying to get ready for the WTAC after the decision was made to delay the retirement of the car. The first video is about the development of the brand new aero package from C-West. Continue reading →
This is ride along video is pretty amazing, but not because of some fancy editing or a good soundtrack. You will like this video simply for the insane performance and fury of the car that the camera is attached to. The car we’re talking about is a historic race car leftover from the legendary Can-Am series, the McLaren M6B. Jim Pace navigates this Chevy small block powered monster around Road America for our enjoyment.
