Under Suzuki Gets His Record

We posted a story a couple of weeks ago about privateer Under Suzuki setting a 53.6 second lap time around Tsukuba Circuit in Japan in his 800 horsepower S15 Nissan Silvia. It was big news in the time attack world because he was only a tenth of a second off from the long standing record set by Nobuteru Tanaguchi in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution based HKS CT2032R. It turns out that Suzuki knew the car was capable of putting down a faster lap time and he decided to rent the track out to prove it. With only a 30 minute window to work with, he set a new lap record for a tuner car on street tires around Tsukuba at 52.649 seconds. Speedhunters posted a written account of the day and Luke Huxham of Maiham Media just released the on-board video of the record setting lap:

Bathurst 1000 Car Comparison 1963 vs. 2012

Lee Holdsworth of Irwin Racing walks us through the in and outs of a modern $300,000 Australian V8 Supercar. To keep things interesting, he compares his car to a replica of the car that won the first ever Bathurst 1000 race. That car is a $15,000 Ford Cortina MK1. I came across this video while reading the coverage of the Bathurst Racing Museum on Speedhunters.

The Cars of the Race of Champions 2012

The DRIVE channel on YouTube is bringing exclusive coverage of this year’s Race of Champions to the US. As a primer for the event, John Hindhaugh of RadioLeMans.com introduces the new cars that the drivers will have to master this year. The ROC buggy and the KTM X-Bow are back alongside a Lamborghini Gallardo based Super Trofeo, a TRD prepared Toyota GT-86 race car, a V8 powered NASCAR style stock car and a VW Scirocco.

GreenGT H2

You may have seen pictures of the GreenGT H2 from the eco-friendly race car group shots taken at this year’s 24 hours of Le Mans. The H2 is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell that drives two electric motors on the rear axle. It will take the experimental technology spot in Garage 56 (the Nissan Deltawing was in Garage 56 this year) for the 2013 race. This animation shows the layout of the car and how the fuel cells work in conjunction with the car’s air compressors.

*UPDATE* Techologic Vehicles and GreenGT posted another video to show off the sound the H2 makes when the fuel cell is fired up:

Under Suzuki’s Tsukuba Obsession

Under Suzuki made news in the time attack world this past weekend by setting a 53.6 second lap time around Tsukuba Circuit, a personal record. Suzuki is the only privateer (he’s a pharmacist during the day) allowed to compete in the Battle Evome series which is otherwise dominated by full fledged tuning companies. His 800 horsepower Scorch S15 was built by himself with the help and input of his friends over the last 10 years. Suzuki’s 53.6 puts him a tenth of a second off of the all time tuning car record held by Nobuteru Tanaguchi in the Mitsubishi Evo based HKS CT2032R. He is gunning to beat HKS’s record and to be the fastest car at the World Time Attack Challenge. This is an interview he did with Maiham Media earlier this year where he talks about his love for time attack.
