Aston Martin CC100

astonmartinccconcept-27astonmartinccconcept-28To celebrate their 100th anniversary, Aston Martin created this CC100 speedster concept. It’s a tribute to their DBR1 race car that won both the 1959 24 hours of Le Mans driven by Carrol Shelby and Roy Salvadori as well as the Nurburgring 1000 driven by Sir Stirling Moss and Jack Fairman. The CC100 is powered by Aston Martin’s 6.0 liter V12 engine that makes over 500 horsepower that puts power to the wheels through a 6 speed sequential manual transmission. Check out this video montage of the CC100’s design concept being born and evolving into a working car:

**EDIT** May 26th, 2013: Turns out it sounds pretty good, too.

Manabu Orido Switches to an LS7 for D1GP 2013

Manabu Orido campaigned a Toyota GT-86 powered by the V8 out of a Lexus IS-F for the 2012 season of the D1 Drifting Grand Prix. He had some reliability issues and was underpowered compared to some of the turbo inline-6 monsters that the other drivers were using. He made the choice to use an LS7 with NOS to make more power in a smaller and lighter package. The car now makes 700 horsepower with a lot more low end torque.

This is the full NBC broadcast of Round 3 of the 2013 Stadium SUPER Trucks series that took place at the LA Coliseum on April 27th. The revival of the SST series has been a project of driver Robbie Gordon in an effort to bring offroad racing back to a fan friendly and profitable venue. The trucks are a mix between motocross bikes and desert racing trophy trucks. They are light, very fast and have huge amounts of suspension travel for jumping.

Morgan Plus 8 Hot Rod

On this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Jay’s friend Jason Len from XK’s Unlimited brings by his hot-rodded 1970 Morgan Plus 8. The car has been modified using the Shelby Cobra formula where an American V8 is put into a small British roadster body. The car originally came with a 215 cubic inch (3.5 liter) aluminum Buick V8 which is commonly referred to as the Rover V8 in Europe. This Morgan has the 3.9 liter version of the block with forged internals and Weber carburetors on top. It’s crazy to think of that much power on a car whose frame is made of Ash with suspension designed in 1910, but that’s what makes this hobby fun.
