Under Suzuki Gets His Record

We posted a story a couple of weeks ago about privateer Under Suzuki setting a 53.6 second lap time around Tsukuba Circuit in Japan in his 800 horsepower S15 Nissan Silvia. It was big news in the time attack world because he was only a tenth of a second off from the long standing record set by Nobuteru Tanaguchi in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution based HKS CT2032R. It turns out that Suzuki knew the car was capable of putting down a faster lap time and he decided to rent the track out to prove it. With only a 30 minute window to work with, he set a new lap record for a tuner car on street tires around Tsukuba at 52.649 seconds. Speedhunters posted a written account of the day and Luke Huxham of Maiham Media just released the on-board video of the record setting lap:

Blown ’64 Cadillac Deville Drop-Top – Big Muscle

This is one of the more interesting episodes of Big Muscle simply because they chose to expand their definition of “muscle car” with this 1964 Cadillac Deville. The car comes from an era where Cadillac was sparing no expense to make the most prestigious and luxurious cars. The fact that all of the intricate stainless steel brightwork is present in this Deville’s stock interior makes it all that much cooler. The owner, Ron Dean, decided to take this luxury cruiser and paint flames on the side and drop a 600 horsepower blown Chevy big-block V8 under the hood. It’s one of those cars where if you have to ask about what the purpose of it is, you’ve missed the point. It’s awesome simply because it exists. It’s a combination of a lot of great things that can be enjoyed together but normally aren’t.

Mitsubishi i-Miev Evolution Pikes Peak

Mitsubishi was gracious enough to grant Autocar a test drive of their i-Miev Evolution electric race car that competed in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Despite a crash in practice, the i-Miev Evolution did well to finish second in the EV class and ninth overall. Mitsubishi campaigned a stock i-Miev alongside this purpose built tube frame race car. At first glance, the two cars only seem to share a greenhouse shape, bit it turns out the i-Miev Evolution uses three i-Miev motors and two of its battery packs. Two of the motors drive the rear wheels while the last one powers the front wheels on the Evolution version. We’re not going to see a street version of this exact car, but a lot of things learned from its development are going into the next Lancer Evolution which Mitsubishi has already gone on record to say will be a performance hybrid.

Honda NSX Tribute by Format67.net

“The value of life can be measured by how many times your soul has been deeply stirred.” You might think that quote came from some kind of philosopher, artist of philanthropist. In a way it did. That sentiment came from Soichiro Honda, a mechanic who eventually went on to start one of the world’s largest car companies which is also the world’s largest motorcycle maker. He’s a man who knows what i means to speak to the soul of us gear heads. This is a tribute to what is widely considered as the best car that Honda has made and a stalwart of the golden age of Japanese sports car, the NSX. Regular people won’t get it and that’s OK. We love cars because they make us feel this way:
